The Dissidents
Growing up in Campbell Hall New York, Clarence "Félix" Nyiri and Tristan Grimm had spent much of their adolescence playing video games and aspiring to be rockstars. Night after night, they would discuss songwriting, musical influences, and dreaming big. More than anything, they both agreed they wanted to bring new life into rock music. Upon finishing high school, the two decided to finally follow their dreams and becoming partners in music and business. In early 2016 Tristan joined and co-formed a new version of “The Dissidents”, a title adopted by Félix several years before. After gaining some notoriety with drummer Craig Vacek, and recording an album with producer Chris Daly of New Paltz NY, the two of them decided on Julian Deltufo as a permanent drummer for the band, and in early 2017 recruited keyboardist/guitarist Tommy "TJ" Byrnes as perminant additions to the band. Together they’ve achieved several significant feats in a small time, quickly becoming household names in the Hudson Valley scene, and becoming regular ringleaders of legendary venues such as The Chance Theater in Poughkeepsie.

Having grown up listening to a large variety of music, Felix, Tristan, Julien, and TJ had a wealth of inspiration to choose from. Early on, however, all four band members decided to root their sound in a punk/alternative environment, drawing the most inspiration from childhood heroes’ such as Green Day, Nirvana, Muse, Beck, The Who, Rage Against the Machine, The Ramones, and the Sex Pistols. Bringing many of their favorite sounds to the forefront. These influences include Tristan’s love for experimental and alternative bands such as The Strokes, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Beatles, Cake, Franz Ferdinand, as well as New Wave artists such as U2, Depeche Mode, The Cure, The Police and Tears For Fears.

Meanwhile, Félix's infatuation with bands such as My Chemical Romance, The Clash, The White Stripes, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, Linkin Park, Wolfmother, Blink-182, Metallica, The Animals, Led Zeppelin, Social Distortion, Neutral Milk Hotel, David Bowie, Gorillaz, Bob Dylan, and Nine Inch Nails. Combining this with his attraction to classical musicians such as Frederic Chopin and Max Bruch, and a deep respect for Eastern (mainly Indian) music, all come together to form the core of The Dissidents’ sound. Félix's love for the psychedelic sonic and visual aesthetic of bands such as Muse, Pink Floyd, and The Flaming Lips, and finally his use of both classic and contemporary poetry (with a hint of hip-hop bravado) as inspiration for his lyrics, and it all adds up to something really special.
